Tour Information

Please contact Dr. Craig Stutman at (215) 901-8548 to schedule  a tour which will be tailored to your group's size and age(s). Although our official op-en hours are limited, with a little advanced noticed,we will do our best to accommodate  your schedule.

Please note that the Meetinghouse is not wheelchair accessible.  To access the building, visitors must navigate two small sets of stairs with handrails (6 total steps) and a short brick walkway.   Suggested donation for a guided tour for an individual, family or small group is  $5/adult.

Group Tours
Group tours of the Meetinghouse and grounds usually last about one hour.  For a longer day, a the friendly staff at the Historic Germantown office can help you combine your visit to the Meetinghouse with other nearby historic sites - many  within walking distance - such as the Johnson House Historic Site, Concord School or Wyck Historic House & Garden.  Groups coordinating a full day of activities often spend the morning in Historic Germantown and the afternoon in downtown Philadelphia, or vice versa. Elementary/Middle School Students – Sample Content & Activities
  • Explore the cemetery – scavenger hunt
  • Learn about the early settlers of Germantown – role-play about making the decision to come to the New World
  • Learn about the 1688 Petition Against Slavery – explore a moral or social issue students care about

High School Students or Adult Groups – Sample Content
  • Explore the Cemetery – Rittenhouse memorial and graves; tombstones in German
  • Learn about early Anabaptists in Europe; Anabaptist distinctives; early settlers of Germantown/weaving; history of Mennonite westward expansion in America; history of Germantown Mennonite congregation through the present
  • Learn about the 1688 Petition against Slavery
  • Connections to the Revolutionary War

  • Met a group at Amtrak’s 30th Street Station, using the regional rail trip to Germantown as a part of the tour
  • Hiked to the memorial of the first Church of the Brethren baptism and Kelpius’ Cave in nearby Wissahickon Valley/Fairmount Park
  • Purchased SEPTA tokens ahead of time for a group going to downtown Philadelphia on public transit
  • Taken a group to get cheesesteak after their tour
